Cable Pin Stripe Suit Problems Connecting Optical Drive To Motherboard?

Problems connecting optical drive to motherboard? - cable pin stripe suit

I have a ASUS P5K and ASUS 1814BL DVD-ROM.

The instruction manual said:
7. Connect one end of the IDE / SATA ribbon cable for IDE / SATA connector on the back of the optical drive, matching the stripes on the cable with pin 1 on the IDE connector. Connect the other end of the IDE / SATA Cable for IDE / SATA connector on the motherboard.

My problems are: 1) No special cables for the optical drive, but I think I can use the USB hard drive (IDE appears, and falls into the connector on your DVD-ROM. My hard drive is already connected to a SATA cable)
2) I see no real IDE connector on the motherboard, but underneath the video card.
3) It is a SATA connector on the motherboard, but not in the OPTICal unit.
